Its name comes from the
hot springs discovered in the foundation of the city by the Romans.
The city is surrounded by a beautifully preserved campaign with real bastides
Provence. Nearby Mount Sainte Victoire which rises to 1,011 m.
In the fifteenth century, Aix en Provence was the capital of Provence, was
"the Florence Provence." Major characters of literature and painting
as Zola and Cezanne were inspired by the charm of the city.
Today, Aix en Provence is a city of art and culture, it has a rich architectural
heritage restored and maintained.
On the Cours Mirabeau Street and Gaston de Saporta, mansions align their
beautiful windows and doors with carved balconies and ironwork art. In the
Mazarin quarter, we will be dressed in chic boutiques.
It is a city of history
with the famous Pont d'Avignon and performing with his theatre festival in
July.
Behind the walls very well preserved, is the Palais des Papes built in the
fourteenth century, museums from the small palace and the Palais du Roure.
One of the most charming streets of Avignon is the rue Joseph Vernet, not far
away, you can discover museums and Requien Calvet. Stroll in the district des
Antiquaires, on the place of Horlogue or on the path which lead you to Rocher
des Doms.
